NDK Scholarship Awardees

Hello all,

You will be happy to know that PSBB has begun awarding the NDK Scholarship to students. Before giving more details on the awardees, I realized that I should include some of proof regarding the final state of the NDK Scholarship account at SBI IITM.

I have included a screenshot of the account details which has the details of the cheques which were handed over to PSBB at Main School. Though it is quite late to post this info, I hope it gives you the same sense of satisfaction that it did for me. Please click on the screenshot for a larger version.


I have 'boxed out' certain details, for the privacy of the donators. The first two entries are of interest and show that the two cheques which were given were successfully passed on 3rd March 2010.

Now, on to the details of the awardees. Avinass, Baargav and I had received a mail from PSBB informing that the students were awarded the NDK Cash Prize. From the mail, I quote:

We are glad to inform you that the following prizes are awarded to the students for the academic year 2009 - 2010 instituted by your goodself.....

.... “Nikhil.D.Kamath Memorial Cash Award” for the Best All Rounder in

(a) Std. XII - VIJAY VENKATESH – XII B

(b) Std. X - VARUN RAJAGOPAL – X B &

HARISH KRISHNA .V – X B

The annual prize distribution would be held on Wednesday 14th July 2010 at 2.00 PM at PSBB Main School, i.e.

I am planning on attending the prize distribution ceremony and it would be good to see some familiar faces of batch mates, there as well. So do try to attend if free.

Target Reached

Hi all,

You will be happy to know that we have reached our target for the Nikhil Kamath Scholarship. :) (Click here for the latest account transfer record).

This is a great occasion as our plans to honour Nikhil have crossed a major hurdle. It wouldn't have been possible but for every single person's initiative and contribution and only goes to show the great bond in our batch and the respect we had for Nikhil.

To be honest, I did not think we would be able to achieve the target and now that we have, I am even more proud to have been a student of PSBB 2005 batch. Great work, people, you were all awesome. This especially includes a few of my batchmates from IIT-M who did their bit by contributing to the NDK Scholarship.

Now, some details on the actual plan ahead. My previous post on this topic, contained some incorrect details. What we plan to do is the following:

1) Draw two cheques. One cheque for Rs.1.25 lakh and for Rs.15,000.

2) The first cheque will be deposited into an account created by PSBB for this purpose. Every year it will accrue interest and the prize money will be awarded from the interest gathered. This will ensure that the NDK Scholarship can be awarded annually if need be.

3) The other cheque will be used to institute the award this year. The amount of Rs.15000 will be used for the following purposes:

-- Purchasing the 2 rolling shields - Between 5000-6000

-- Engraving costs etc. - A minor amount

-- Prize money for this year - Rs.8000

The above steps which need to be taken sound simple enough and we expect to do this very soon.

There may be a few people who are in the process of donating and may still like to. We are planning to give a cheque with the amount specified only and would not be immediately using or transferring any extra money that is donated. Though it would not hurt in having an extra amount, I request that any process that has been started in this regard, be put on hold.

I will keep you updated on further important events, especially when we hand over the amount to PSBB. Once again, I would like to say kudos to all those who have contributed and helped us achieve this goal. We haven't yet reached our final and most important aim, but a major part of the work has been done.

The Plan Ahead

Hi,

First of all, a big Thank You to those who have donated so far. It is only by your contributions that the amount has reached a healthy total of more than 85 thousand. As always, if you can spread the word around and remind more people to donate, it would be a big help.

Many people may be wondering as to what their money is doing and how it will be used. The final plan is to hand over a cheque to PSBB Schools with the total amount. This step may happen even as late as May in order to allow the amount to gather some interest. Hence, the amount will remain in the bank for some more time, but it will be taken care of, you can be sure.

I would also like to announce the deadline for donations to the NDK Scholarship. The process was started around December 26th 2009 and we felt it was time we brought the constant remainders for donations to a close.

The deadline has been set to January 31st 2010.

What this deadline means is that, the account will continue to remain for donations, but we may not be actively campaigning for it among the PSBB batch and may look towards other sources if the target is not reached.
